The 23/24 Spark R&D Surge ST Pro has undergone some changes. In addition to being very light (+/- 140 grams lighter than the Surge), the Surge Pro is also a lot stiffer and more responsive. This saving and change in flex is mainly achieved by replacing the hardware, carbon in the high backs and Pebax plastic in the straps. ST stands for 'smooth touring' where friction and wear are eliminated. The whammy bar (heel riser) is connected to the binding and ensures that the crampons always fully engage. The addition of the ski pole adjustable heel riser makes this one of the most practical bindings in the field. This binding is the stiffest in the Spark line and therefore suitable for the bigger riders or big chargers who spend long days out in the backcountry.
